The Web filtering is a crucial tool that helps network administrators control web accesses of users to certain websites. When enabling Web filtering, all web traffic is compared against the URL database, which contains a listing undesired websites that have been categorized based on policies criteria. Examples of categories are illegal, violence, security, entertainment etc. Therefore, Web filtering enables the organization to comply with regulatory and legal obligations as well as to provide a productive and more protected environment for user to surf web contents. In several countries, international Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are enforced by law to deploy URL filtering. Several ISPs begin to adopt the newly 40/100 Gigabit per second standard. The capital expense (CapEx) and operations expense (OpEx) for commercial, proprietary 100 Gb/s URL filtering is very high ($3M and $5M with five years’ maintenance, respectively). This invention presents a high performance Web filtering.
