In the present invention, there is disclosed an ingot mold with improved inner quality intended for casting and solidification of steels and metal alloys, particularly for casting and solidification of cutting-tool steels, with inside diameter gradually varying past the ingot mold height. The ingot mold of the present invention is characterized in that in longitudinal section, the inner profile of the mold is at least in the mold body base portion narrowed relative to the inner profile of the mold body main portion and/or alternatively the inner profile of the mold is at least in the mold body subhead portion widened relative to the inner profile of the mold body main portion to support solidification of the cast metal in the base portion and moderation of cast metal solidification in the mold body head portion.
